ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDThis study aimed to observe the differences in brain gray matter volume in drug-naive female patients after the first episode of major depression with and without stressful life events (SLEs) before the onset of depression.

METHODSForty-three drug-naive female patients voluntarily participated in the present study after the first major depressive episode. The life event scale was used to evaluate the severity of the impact of SLEs during 6 months before the onset of the major depressive episode. High-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans were obtained, and the VBM and SPM8 software process were used to process and analyze the MRI.

RESULTSCompared to that in patients without SLEs, the volume of brain gray matter was lower in the bilateral temporal lobe, right occipital lobe, and right limbic lobe in the SLE group. However, the gray matter volume did not differ significantly between the two groups after the application of false discovery rate (FDR) correction.

CONCLUSIONSAlthough the results of the present study suggest the absence of significant differences in brain gray matter volume between female drug-naive patients after the first episode of major depression with and without SLEs after FDR correction, the study provides useful information for exploring the definitive role of stress in the onset of depression.

ABSTRACT

After more than half a century of development, obesity and metabolic surgery in western countries has become a complete surgical specialties, but the introduction of obesity and metabolic surgery was only 10 years old in China. The surgical treatment of obesity and related metabolic diseases, especially obesity of type 2 diabetes has been recognized and acknowledgd by the majority of surgical colleagues and patients as a new direction of development. The current trend of obesity and metabolic surgery is favorable, but there are many problems in the development of obesity and metabolic surgery in China, for example, the surgery nomenclature is not standardized, surgical indications are loosened, the surgical procedure is modified arbitrarily, the evaluation criteria is confusing, the postoperative follow-up protocol is not unified, etc. These problems require the majority of surgical colleagues to work together to make the standards scientifically a nd objectively in accordance with the actual situatioin of our country, so as to promote the healthy development of obesity and metabolic surgery in China.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the association between HLA-A and B alleles and alopecia areata. Methods HLA-A and-B alleles were studied by LABTypeTM SSO in 44 patients with alopecia areata and 200 healthy controls. Results The frequencies of HLA-A*11(χ2=6.08,P 〈 0.05),HLA-B*13(χ2=29.80,P 〈 0.01),HLA-B*40(χ2=8.04,P 〈 0.01),HLA-B*46(χ2=5.86,P 〈 0.05)and HLA-B*51(χ2=8.82,P 〈 0.01)alleles were significantly increased in alopecia areata patients compared with the control. Conclusion HLA-A*11,HLA-B*13,HLA-B*40,HLA-B*46 and HLA-B*51 might be the susceptible alleles of the patients with alopecia areata.

ABSTRACT

Mammary hyperplasia (MHP) is the most commonly encountered mammary disease in women at the child-bearing stage. Especially, atypical hyperplasia which belongs to the precancerous category, is the disease for class I prevention of breast cancer. Therefore, advancing the clinical efficacy of MHP treatment is of critical importance. Chinese medicine (CM) and drugs show a peculiar effect in this field; the clinical or experimental researches concerning MHP treatment by CM compounds or patent drugs have been increasing gradually in recent years, but the thinking paths and methods for establishing the MHP animal model are divergent. Particularly, the disease/CM syndrome conjugated model (D/S model) has rarely been studied. For this reason, the pathogenetic mechanism, the establishment of an animal disease model, as well as the thinking paths and methods for establishing the D/S model of MHP are discussed and summarized preliminarily in this paper by the authors. This could provide a new way of thinking and method for creating the MHP model in modern medicine.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate microRNA expression profiles of colonic cancer without lymph node metastasis and identify the specific microRNAs associated with carcinogenesis of colon. Methods Cancerous and para-cancerous tissues (5 cm from cancer tissues of the colon) confirmed without lymph node metastasis were collected from 3 patients. The microRNAs were extracted and isolated by mirVana RNA kit. Hybridizations were made by applying the microRNAs to Agilent microRNA microarray. Data analysis was done by software of Feacture Extraction. The discovered microRNAs were confirmed by real time PCR assay. Results Twelve out of 14 microRNAs associated with colonic cancer were up-regulated in colonic tissues. They were miR-106b, miR-135b,miR-18a,miR-18b,miR-196b, miR-19a, miR-224, miR-335, miR-424, miR-20a' , miR-301b and miR-374a. The rest two of miR-378 and miR 378* were down-regulated. Two up-regulated microRNAs (miR-18a and miR-135b) were detected in 3 pairs of cancerous and para-cancerous tissues. The expression level of miR-18a and miR-135b were accordant with the results of real time PCR.Conclusions microRNA.such as miR-106b,miR-135b.miR-18a.miR-18b,miR-196b,ect,were differentially expressed between cancerous and para-cancerous tissues. Many of these target genes are supposed to participate in the process of multiple tunmorgenesis. These microRNAs play an important role in the carcinogenesis of colon.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate, at the DNA level, the polymorphism of HLA-A, -B, -Cw genes in the Chinese of Han ethnicity in Shenyang.

METHODSHybridization with polymerase chain reaction-sequence specific oligonucleotide probes (PCR-SSOP) was used to determine HLA-A, -B and -Cw genotypes of 108 unrelated healthy individuals from a Chinese Han population. These Hans were born and living in the Shenyang area.

RESULTSThe numbers of alleles identified were 21 for HLA-A, 43 for HLA-B, and 23 for HLA-Cw. All the allele frequency distributions were consistent with the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.

CONCLUSIONUsing molecular method, the present authors have analyzed the characteristic of HLA I distribution in a group of indigenous Hans in Shenyang and thus have provided more accurate gene data for use in related researches.

After P value correction, the difference was still significant between the two groups.

CONCLUSIONPV significantly relates with HLA in PV patients of Han nation of northeast China.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the relationship between pemphigus vulgaris(PV) and HLA-DR,DQ haplotypes in Han nations of northeast China. Methods:Polymerase chain reaction-sequence specific primers(PCR-SSP) method was used to detect the HLA-DRB1 and DQB1 alleles of 27 PV patients of Han nation of northeast China, analysed haplotyes and compared with 99 healthy controls. Results:Compared with control group, the frequencies of the haplotypes of HLA-DRB1*140x-DQB1*0503,DRB1*140x-DQB1*0201,DRB1*120x-DQB1*0503 and DRB1*140x-DQB1*0302 increased significantly in PV group. After statistical test, the difference between the two groups was significant. Conclusion:The special haplotypes may contribute to genetic susceptibility to PV in northeast Chinese.
